  2. You must be pretty desparate if you're looking for the meaning of life
  3. buried in a subdirectory of a graphics pack. Haaaa-haaaa.
  4.  
  5. Pretty icon tho, isnt it? :)

  7. Well, anyways, if this is the first ArcsPack you've downloaded, you might
  8. be asking yourself what the hell you're gonna do with all this stuff.
  9. So, I'll try and answer that.
  10.  
  11. Traditionally, the ArcsPack series contains generally 3 types of goodies.
  12. Startup-Pix, Backdrops, and Palletes.
  13.  
  14. Startup Pix are simply nicely-painted screens for your Amiga to display
  15. during startup..Instead of a nasty solid grey or black screen. If you
  16. find an ArcsPack which contains Startup-Pix (not all of them do), you
  17. can then find the image for your specific machine. There are versions
  18. for every known Amiga out there, from the bargain-basement A600 all
  19. the way up to the top-of-the-line A3000UX/040 and A4000/040 ..

  21. Backdrops are what constitutes the majority of the space in any ArcsPack.
  22. These are images which you may load into any Workbench tile & backdrop
  23. program, like WBPattern in OS3, and NickPrefs' WBPicture. These images are
  24. painted in such a way as to look pretty cool when repeated as a pattern.
  25. The goofy names I give them are usually due to things I see and come across
  26. in my every-day life.. Music I listen to while I paint, TV shows I flip
  27. back and forth from, etc. I try to inject a little humor into the Amiga
  28. community whenever I can, especially these days, when humor is what we need
  29. most. More on that, later.

  31. Thirdly, each ArcsPack usually contains Palletes. Incase you dont like
  32. the color schemes of either my backdrops or my startup pix, you are
  33. welcome to load the images into the paint program of your choice, and
  34. then load these palletes in to change their color! Since I paint ALL of
  35. my work using the same basic color scheme layout, adding new color to
  36. my work is a cinch. If you dont like basic grey, change it to BoO-BeRRy
  37. BlUe, or GraPiTty-Grape-Purple! However you like.

  39. As I mentioned above, I think it's important for those of us lucky to have
  40. Net access to "share the wealth", so to speak, when it comes to our own
  41. community. The Amiga community is an extremely distinct community of highly
  42. inventive and creative people; You are one of the people in this community,
  43. which encompasses the Net, your local dealership, your local BBSes, and
  44. other Amiga users worldwide. A month or so ago, I figured I would take it
  45. upon myself to do my part to keep our community striving, by using my
  46. talents in painting to generate these ArcsPacks. Its just my little way
  47. of helping everyone out and saying thanks. I dont ask anything in return.
  48. It would be extremely cool of you if you could stop where youre at, and
  49. ask yourself what tiny little thing YOU could do to help out.. Maybe
  50. bringing some files off the net, and taking them to your local BBS for
  51. folks who dont have net access, or maybe even taking the time to send
  52. something as small as a thank-you note to the author of your favorite
  53. utility. It dosent take much effort, and it has really fab results.

  55. I'm doing my part by lending a hand--and so should you, really. Its 1995,
  56. and the Amiga is still alive and well because of the efforts of folks
  57. like you and I. Lets keep it that way. Because if we continue to do so,
  58. we'll have absolutely no problem weathering the storm.
